Let Your Kids Cry!

I hate hearing my children cry.  There is nothing that frazzles my nerves faster than when one of my babies begins to wail while driving down the highway. It makes me a basket case!

As you can guess, I'm also not a fan of the “cry it out” method of sleep training for my children. Although, there have been some instances – during the colic phase with my youngest – when my sanity depended on placing her safely in her crib and taking a 5 minute break.

I cringe when I hear well-meaning older relatives say things like “Let her cry. It's good for her lungs.” After all, our children's cries are meant to get a response, a reaction. Crying works.

So why should we let our children cry? Isn't that the opposite of what we have spent their whole first year doing? Why let them cry?

Find out why it's a good idea on the next page.
