Humiliating Your Kids Is Not Punishment

Have you stumbled across any of the recent YouTube videos of parents punishing their kids for all the world to see? What's with this sudden trend of embarrassing kids on the internet?

Do these parents not realize that once this stuff is out there, it's permanent – that there's really no way to ever erase it? I couldn't imagine ever uploading a video like this to YouTube. I find cruel and disturbing.

This video is called “Good Parenting: Father Makes His Son Destroy One Of His Xbox Consoles For Failing In School.” As far as I'm concerned, this is nowhere near an example of good parenting. Quite frankly, I think it's wasteful and pointless to teach our kids that destroying things is okay.

Check this out. This totally made me shake my head in disbelief. I think this is an altogether bad way of dealing with this situation. You can see the video on the next page.
