You can recycle just about any type of metal. Most people are familiar with collecting aluminum cans and turning those in, but did you know that you can also get cash for things like washers and dryers, copper pipe, and car batteries?

Here’s a list of some things that you might want to hang on to the next time you’re cleaning out your attic, garage, or basement.

–        Aluminum cans

–        Brass and copper from plumbing and/or electric repairs

–        Appliances – washers and dryers, stoves and refrigerators

–        Car batteries

–        Stainless steel pots and pans

–        Aluminum screens and doors

–        Aluminum siding

–        Sheet aluminum from outdoor sheds and pool decks

You’ll definitely want to call your local yard and ask them exactly what they take and how much they pay for it. While you’re at it, ask them what the requirements are for you to be able to bring it in. Some states require that you have a valid driver’s license or photo ID with you. Whether you get paid by cash or check will also depend upon your state and local laws and the company policy of the yard that you choose to work with.

Do you have a secret for how to earn a little bit of extra money this spring? Share it in the comments.
