I know, at least to some degree, I was guilty of this before I had my son. I guess I just didn't get it. I couldn't quite wrap my head around how much of a balancing act it really was to work and raise a family. Who would've thought?

To this day, I'll never forget the first time that I got a text message telling me that the little guy was sick. I didn't even put anything away. I was out the door and on my way to get him in an instant. Granted, I could've had someone else go pick him up and take him home – at least in theory, but I wanted to be there for him and I wanted to comfort him.

At that moment in time, I didn't care about anything else. And it was at that exact moment that it clicked – that I realized it isn't about us anymore. It's about our little ones and what's best for them.

One mom wrote an amazing essay about judging working moms before she had kids of her own. You can read what she has to say on the next page.
