6 Things That Are On My Bucket List For This Year

1. Zoo and Aquarium – I could see him totally loving this. Even if he doesn’t completely grasp the concept, which he won’t quite yet – He’ll still be amused by seeing all of the different animals.

2. Beach – We planned a late summer vacation to the ocean. I can’t wait to see the expression on his face when he sees saltwater and sand for the first time. I’m thinking that I’m going to have a lot of lazy days watching the little guy build sandcastles and we’ll probably be taking a lot of walks along the beach to look for seashells.

3. Renaissance Festival – I’m willing to bet he’ll love the medieval costumes and the jousting. They generally have a kid’s weekend every year as well. Last year, they had a prince, princess, and pirate costume party and photos with the king and queen.

4. Playground – I want to find a local playground that has a play area specifically for small children – baby swings and smaller slides. We didn’t get to do anything like this last year because of how young he was. This year, he’ll be older. If all else fails, I know of the perfect place to take him near where I grew up – a playground that I actually helped build as part of a school project.

5. Amusement park – We have a semi-local amusement park with a number of attractions for small children. The first one that comes to mind is Storybook Forest – a walk-through exhibit where a number of fairy tales are brought to life. If my memory serves me correctly, there’s also a train to ride.

6. Pool – We never actually ended up in the pool last summer. By the time he was healed enough to be submersed in water, it was already starting to cool off. Here’s to hoping we have better luck this year.

I’m sure as the year goes on, I’ll think of more places that I want to go. In the meantime, I think this is a good list of things that we can do and that he’ll enjoy – even being as young as he is. As he gets older, these places will take on a different meaning to him. His entire experience will change as his understanding of where we’re going and what we’re doing changes. I have a few ideas for next year as well – things that I want to do with him, but that he’s still too young for this year. I truly can’t wait, though.
