4 Reasons Why I’m Pro-Homeschooling

1. You’re spending more time together as a family. You’re not a slave to the weekday chaos that consists of nothing more than school, dinner, homework, and bedtime. You can work on concepts daily and use teachable moments as they occur, but your lives don’t revolve around someone else’s schedule.

2. You have freedom and flexibility that you don’t have in a classroom. You can work at your own pace – for some subjects that may be way beyond their grade level. For others, maybe that’s right on track. Each child has different strengths and weaknesses and you can create your own curriculum with that in mind. If you need to spend less time on math concepts and more time on spelling, you can. Not having a classroom full of 20 or so kids with different aptitudes means more individualized instruction.

3. Think about all the wasted time. You get up, get dressed, catch the bus, and then sit in homeroom for 20 or so minutes each morning. By that point, you’ve already wasted at least an hour or two of your day. If you factor in the time spent switching classes or the time spent sitting in study halls, there’s another hour or so and you haven’t even considered the bus ride home yet. Overall, you’ll have more time to focus on learning if you’re not spending as much time making transitions.

 4. You can spread it out – you can work for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening, if that’s what works best for you and your kids. You could work fewer hours a day, but six days a week or even work through the summer. I’ve heard of families doing it a multitude of different ways. It’s completely up to you how you choose to schedule your days.

I’m sure that there are many more reasons why people choose to home school. Do you homeschool or are you considering it? What are your reasons? Leave a comment and add to my list.
