3 Skills You Need To Work From Home

1. Self-Motivation

I’m not talking about the motivation to stay home. Most of us are very motivated to stay inside our cozy bubbles in yoga pants and toms. I’m talking about the motivation to actually get some work done while you’re there.

It can sometimes be hard to step away from the recliner and the television in order to type up spreadsheets or send work related emails, or do any kind of real work when you’re at home. If you want to be a WAHM, you have to learn to conquer the belief that home is for rest and relaxation. You have to carve out a place to work from and motivate yourself to get in there and work.
Unlike at the office, there won’t be anyone checking up on you or pushing your nose against the grind stone. As a WAHM, it’s now your job to motivate yourself to tackle your to-do list.

2. Self-Discipline

You’re going to have to do more than motivate yourself to get started. As a WAHM, you’ll also need to master self-discipline. That is a lot easier said than done some days.
You can’t call in to the office because the kids are fighting in the next room or the neighbor’s dog is barking at squirrels. You have to learn to complete your work even with all the distractions.

Some days, that takes a whole lot of discipline!
It’s not just outside forces that will be trying to squash your motivation and productivity; you can be your own worst enemy. Facebook and Pinterest aren’t your friends when you’re a WAHM. They can suck away all your time and focus if you let them.

3. Space

As I mentioned before, having a space is crucial. A tangible defined space in your home helps you separate work from play in your mind. That’s an essential skill when it comes to being a successful WAHM.

It doesn’t have to be a whole room, the corner of a room or even a special chair can become your workspace. It’s not important how large the space is or how you decorate it. What’s really important is just that you have it and use it.

After reading my list, what other skills do you think are essential for WAHMs?
