Disciplining a toddler is a tricky business. I've learned that it's certainly not a ‘one size fits all' kind of deal.  Each child is unique after all.

As a mom that truly believes in attachment parenting, I didn't plan on using time outs. First, I tried getting down on his level and discussing the situation and his feelings. I tried many “gentler” methods before resorting to time outs. I thought I knew what I was doing, but none of that worked with my son. I learned that the discipline methods that might be best for me, aren't necessarily the ones my toddler will best respond to.

Still, I'd love to know what my toddler is really thinking during those moments. Am I getting through to him? Does he understand the reasons?
