The HOA Turns Ugly…

I live in a new housing development that is ruled by a Homeowners Association (HOA).  If you aren't familiar with an HOA, it is the Enforcer for cookie cutter neighborhoods.  The HOA makes sure that uniformity is adhered to, collect assessments and enforces the rules of the governing documents, or Covenants.

The problem with HOAs is they are run by a handful of your neighbors, and they are typically the Mafia-like nitpicker sort.  The neighbors who don't serve on the HOA Board feel they now have an ear to bend.  And by that, I mean they tattle for any “infraction”, large or small, regularly.

When did this passive-aggressive behavior start?  When did we, as adults, decide that we'd rather judge our neighbors instead of discussing the issue face-to-face?

Maybe the woman down the street hasn't mowed her lawn because she goes to work at 6:00am and is exhausted by the time she gets home.  Or her mower didn't start. Maybe the neighborly thing to do is ask her.

Read how HOAs have ruined it because the struggle is real, people.
