Long Distance Love

It started out innocently enough. At first, he would drive 2 hours each way to pick me up and bring me home on the weekends. For a long time, we only saw each other one or two days a week. That was more than enough. After a while, though, something changed. I’m not exactly sure what or when, but I started driving back and forth by myself.

First, it was only on the weekends, but it didn’t take long to turn into more than that. I was driving two hours each way to see him no less than twice a week. We won’t even get into how quickly I drove up the mileage on my car – 100 miles each way will do that, you know.

In October, six months after we first met, I ended up moving up here. I walked away from my job, my family, and my friends to be with him. At one point, I had tried to convince him to move closer to me, but we both knew that wasn’t practical. After all, he already owned a house.

One thing led to another and before we knew it, we were engaged and married – just like that. After all the times I swore to him that he didn’t stand a chance. Ironic, isn’t it? And there we were, after all that time, still together.

He was the first, and of course only, guy that I ever stepped outside of my comfort zone for. Prior to meeting him, I honestly thought that I would live out my days in the same little city that I was born and raised in. Sometimes, I guess things change.

Have you ever had a long distance relationship? How did you make it work? Did you eventually find yourselves closer together? Leave a comment and share your story.
