7 Things You Must Teach Your Son

Ashley Reding, mom and writer, recently shared a list of 7 things moms must teach their sons with Skinny Mom.  As the mother of an amazing little boy, I confess that I firmly believe there are some things only his dad can really teach him.

But what about me? Are there things he needs to learn in this life that only I can show him? Sure. … and not just things like how to sew a button back on his shirt.

1. His dreams are greater than his fears
2. Feelings are not a taboo subject
3. No man is an island
4. There are no elves that take care of our life responsibilities
5. Love  with all of your heart
6. Life’s road has a few bumps…but also plenty of beautiful views
7. He is as special as his mother says he is

I hope that my son is brave and always works hard to make his dreams come true, even when he's a bit afraid of them.  If his current attitude is an indicator, I'm certain he'll go far.

I hope he knows he doesn't have to be afraid to let his feelings show. I want him to be a man, not a robot.

Speaking of being a man, I hope he never feels like he is alone or that he should be.  I pray he always has a supportive tribe around him.

I'm teaching him every day that he must be responsible and learn skills like cooking and cleaning. There are no little fairies to do it for him.

I pray he always loves as deeply, strongly, and unconditionally as he does now. His heart is so beautiful.

When life gets hard, I hope he remembers to look for the silver lining. I hope he takes the time to count his blessings and doesn't get discouraged.

Most of all, I want him to be absolutely certain that he is as special as I say he is and I never want him to let anyone convince him otherwise.
