7 Things That Make Creative People Unique

1. Always writing things down. Ideas come to me almost constantly. I’ll be sitting at work and suddenly get an awesome idea, so I scramble around to find something to write it down on before I forget about it. My purse is a bottomless pit of my creative to-dos scribbled all over dozens of hot pink post-it notes.

2. Being a night person. I do my best thinking late at night after everyone else has gone to bed. I can sit and make things in relative peace. I can do my thing without any interruptions whatsoever. I cherish my time between 10 PM and 2 AM.

3. Having multiple projects going at once. I almost always have at least a half dozen or so different things that I’m working on at any given time. Sometimes, that might be a canvas and a scrapbook layout or, maybe, a piece of jewelry and an art journal page. Either way, I’m known for almost always multi-tasking.

4. Understanding that organized doesn’t necessarily equate to productive and being okay with that. I strive to have a clean studio space – really, I do, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes, I get inspiration from things being scattered everywhere. What seems disorganized to one person may be the exact opposite to someone else.

5. I’ve made a conscious choice to never stop learning. I have a bad habit of signing up for classes on a somewhat consistent basis. I love to learn. I get total pleasure from learning anything and everything that I possibly can. I’m also known for submersing myself into podcasts and YouTube videos. Regardless of how you look at it, I’m constantly looking for something new to learn.

6. I find inspiration in the everyday. The strangest things will end up being a jumping-off point for me – a color, a texture – really, anything. The next thing you know, I’m covered in paint or ink. It’s not intentional. I don’t go looking for these things. I guess it’s just the way that I think.

7. I’m a collector of things. Sometimes, other people think those things are trash, but I can see potential in just about anything. I have lots of cute little odds and ends that I’ve brought home for future craft/do it yourself projects. It never fails, though. You can make something from just about anything.
