Scary Mommy made a great list of things toddlers would rather play with that will help you discover what household items your kid might be eyeballing for his next play time.

If you're just getting started with the toddler years, trust me, you'll soon find your kiddo enjoying these “toys” in your own home.  They just can't resist these:

1. The Toilet. As the sole individual in my house who is not potty trained this child is deeply fascinated with the porcelain bowl filled with water. He wants nothing more than to swim in it. Or throw his toys in it. Or jam his hands in it.

2. The Stairs. My squirmy kid is showing signs of being a thrill seeker at en early age as demonstrated by his reverence of the stairs. He spends his entire day trying to figure out how to break through the baby gate to get to them.

Child locks and baby gates do wonders for stopping toddlers from playing with these two.  At first, you'll feel as if you have to break into your bathroom to pee, but you'll soon get used to it. Besides, you'd rather do the potty dance while opening the child lock than have your toddler catch MRSA from drinking toilet water.

3. The Kitchen Trash. Is there a secret treasure in the kitchen trash that I am not in-the-know about? Does the trash can beckon my kid with promises of adventure? Seriously, what gives?

Did you know they make locking trash cans? After my son tossed three sets of magnetic refrigerator letters in the trash and brought me a watermelon rind, we invested in one. Best decision ever.

4. The Dog Food. The poor dog cannot eat in peace. Or drink water for that matter. My curious child is forever washing his toys in the dog water bowl or throwing the dry kibble all over the kitchen floor.

This is why my poor dogs eat outside these days. At this point, they much prefer it to having my toddler attempt to bark at them and “catch” their wagging tales while they eat.  I'm just glad I no longer have to say “Don't eat the dog food!”

My son is in love with my hair dryer lately. It's sort of cute the way he comes into the bathroom and asks me to turn it on him while I'm drying my hair. He's also a big fan of switching off the surge protector while my husband is using the computer. That little light just beckons him.

Check out the rest of the list at Scary Mommy and then tell us  some other things your kiddos just love to play with.
