1. Build a fort!

My siblings and I had so much fun building elaborate forts as kids! These days I get really creative while making them with my kids. It’s so much fun to turn the entire living room into a fort for the kiddos to play in! They burn out lots of energy building the structure and then trying to solve the problems of a sagging roof on one side or where to put the doorway. It’s great to watch their little minds work at problem solving while they use their imaginations. Sometimes I even let them leave it up to sleep in at night!

2. Bouncy House

You actually have to leave the house for this one, but it’s not outdoors. My son absolutely loves these places! It’s basically a giant room filled with inflatable bounce houses of different styles. A trip to the bounce house costs around $5 per child and there is no limit to how long they can play. We have spent several hours at our local bounce house. The kids love running and jumping. On the way home, they are so worn out that they usually fall asleep before we get home. The peace and quiet is divine!

3. Make an obstacle course!

You can get really creative about what to include in your own obstacle course. I like to include a line to walk along, because my son is obsessed with the balance beam from gymnastics. Also, anything that involves climbing (you can let them climb on the couch just this once) is usually a big hit. If you’re having trouble thinking of what to include, ask your kids! Let them help you invent and build it. That will get their minds working and using their little imaginations. Kids are so creative!

4. Impromptu Ball Pit

This is so much fun for little ones! Many toy stores and even Target sell the sort of plastic balls one could find in a ball pit. They are usually sold in bulk and come in large plastic bags or boxes. If your kiddo is still small enough for the playpen, these sort of balls are perfect! Put junior in the playpen and dump all the balls into the bottom. I like to mix in some stuffed animals too. When my son was about a year old, this kept him busy long enough for me to get a good amount of house cleaning done.
