1. The baby – He’s most definitely at the top of the list. I wouldn’t trade the two or so months I was at home with him for anything. I loved every minute of being his mama. I will never forget it. It was the most surreal experience of my entire life – a dream come true in so many ways.

2. The sleep – This probably sounds crazy, but I definitely got more sleep before I went back to work. As it stands now, if someone has a rough night, he gets to go to daycare and take a nap. There’s no naptime for mama at work. When I was on maternity leave, I could nap off and on all day if I wanted to, at least as long as I was okay with it only being for 2-3 hours at a time.

3. The food – I can’t even begin to tell you how much food we ended up with, especially pasta. People kept bringing it to us. It was so nice to be able to just toss something in the oven for a half hour or so and eat for the week. No real effort involved.

4. The time – I loved having time. Granted, his needs were my first priority, but at approximately 30 minutes per feeding and feedings every 2-3 hours, that accounted for about 6 hours of my day – what better time to read, watch movies, etc. Yay for tablets and touchscreens. As long as I could manage it with one hand, it was doable. Can you say multi-tasking?

5. The quiet – Most of the time, it was just us and the dog. Daddy was at work and we never really got all that much company during the day. For the most part, I didn’t even really keep my phone near me. We just spent our days taking it all in and focusing on each other.

6. The help – It was nice to have the people closest to us in and out. My house never has been, and probably never will be, as clean as it was when I was on maternity leave. My best friend would stop over every day on her way home, like clockwork, and spend some time with the baby, so I could jump in the shower and do whatever else I needed to do.

Did you love being on maternity love? Were there some things you could’ve done without? Leave a comment and share your experience. I can’t wait to hear about it.
