1. The Land Before Time – Do you remember Littlefoot, Ducky, Petrie, Cera, and Spike? Sooner or later, I’m hoping to find the entire DVD series at a reasonable price. If my mom did happen to still have these, I think most of them were VHS. That doesn’t help when we no longer have a VCR. For the time-being, though, we have the stuffed animals – he can have them when he’s a little older. For right now, I have them stashed away in his closet.

2. Just Ask series – These books were from a book club that I was in as a little girl. Unfortunately when I asked about these, my mom couldn’t find them. I ended up scouring the internet and eventually found almost the entire collection. These are adorable and I have fond memories of reading them. Each book answers a science-related question. What makes a rainbow? Why does it rain? What makes day and night? I’m sure you get the idea.

3. Care Bears – You’ll find the occasional Care Bear scattered amidst his toys – they’re leftovers from when I was little. There’s actually an entire box of them that I’ve kept for all these years. Someday, I’ll get around to digging out the rest of them for him to play with.

4. Shel Silverstein books – We have several of the Shel Silverstein books “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” “A Light in the Attic,” and “Falling Up.” When I stumbled across these books as I was putting together his nursery, I knew I had to buy another copy for him. I know he’s a bit too young for these right now, but they’re on his bookshelf for him when he’s ready for them.

5. The Magic School Bus – I ended up buying the entire series – all 52 episodes – on DVD. I used to watch The Magic School Bus every day. I loved Ms. Frizzle and her class as well as all of their crazy field trips.

6. “Little Bear” by Elsa Holmelund Minarik and Maurice Sendak – This book came as part of another book club that I was in when I was younger and was, no doubt, one of my favorites. I coincidentally stumbled across this book through his Scholastic Reading Club. I didn’t even realize it still existed. Of course I ordered it for him.

Are there things that you’ve made a point of finding and/or buying for your little ones that were popular when you were a child? Leave a comment and add to the list.
