5 Reasons Why I Hate Remodeling

1. The decisions – Ah, the decisions… Who would’ve ever thought that choosing between carpet and hardwood could be so complicated? I never realized just how many choices you have to make – doors and windows, paint, flooring, etc. I’m sure you get the idea. It’s a form of torture, especially for someone who’s somewhat indecisive.

2. The expense – I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how much money we’ve spent thus far. It pains me to think about how expensive each and every one of our projects ends up being. Let me tell you another thing, our initial estimates – they’re almost never right. Something always comes up or we end up needing something else.

3. The disagreements – This is sort of a spin-off of the decisions, but I remember when we were picking out the carpet for the two bedrooms upstairs… The neutral that ended up in our bedroom was fine. I wanted rose in the other bedroom and my husband wanted navy. Fast forward a bit and we finally agreed to navy – probably a good thing since we ended up having a boy. Even now, with our current project, we’ve discussed/disagreed/debated almost every major decision – placement of windows and doors, walls, flooring. Should I keep going? Lol…

4. The time – You never realize, at least not until you’re already knee-deep in a project, how long it’s actually going to take. Things also, almost always, take longer than you originally expected. I expected to be moving into my new space by now. Weather delayed our plans more times than I can count. I planned on it freeing up some space in each bedroom as well as downstairs. That hasn’t happened yet. Soon, though.

5. The disorganization – Things are everywhere. They’ve been for years now. When we were working on the upstairs, we were sleeping downstairs. Now that we have the little guy, all of my craft supplies are downstairs until we finish the sunroom.  I swear the Tupperware boxes are multiplying. I eventually get irritated and start packing things away – that’s how I cope. Half of my worldly possessions are packed away in boxes that are neatly lined up in our laundry room. I can’t handle clutter.

Have you done any remodeling? Do you hate it? Leave a comment and share your thoughts on the subject. I can’t wait to hear them.
