4 Ways My Husband Can Tell I Took A Sick Day
9 hours later, as my husband walks in the door after work, I know what he’s thinking – so many obvious signs that we’ve been at home all day – that I never made it to work and that the little guy never made it to daycare. Here are just a few of them.
1. I know that as he passes through the kitchen, he sees the remnants of each of our meals from today – There are baby food containers and pudding cups scattered all over the kitchen counter. There are dirty spoons in just about every one of them. You know, because it’s only 5 PM and I’ve already fed this little guy quite a few times today. Of course, I figured it would make sense for me to have a quick snack in the process.
2. As he makes his way through the living room, the TV is more than likely still on – probably the light too. There are a few wadded up tissues on the end table, an extra pillow and blanket on the couch, and the remote control is missing again.
3. The little guy and I are both still in our pajamas and nowhere to be found – usually, this means that we both ended up going back upstairs. Sometimes, we’re still sleeping. This child who, more often than not, is an insomniac occasionally sleeps for a several-hour stretch and I obviously take advantage of it, especially after being up every hour – on the hour – all night.
4. More than likely, I hear him coming up the steps and I don’t even bother trying to clean up. There are so many toys strewn across both of the bedroom floors that you have to tiptoe around them – anything to keep this little guy occupied, right? It just sort of gets away from me. I pick them up and the little guy just dumps them all back out again. There’s no sense in wasting my time, is there?
Can your husband tell it was a sick day as soon as he walks in the door after work? Are there obvious signs that you and your little ones have been home all day? Leave me a comment and tell me about them!
