4 Ways My Husband Can Tell I Took A Sick Day

I wonder if he realizes that the little guy wouldn’t let me put him down all evening. Every single time his bottom touched any hard surface, he started crying – not whining, but all-out screaming and throwing himself around. I consider whether he has any recollection of me not coming to bed until 2 AM because someone wouldn’t sleep. Between being sick and teething, it was a lost cause. I surrendered myself to walking around with him in my arms for hours on end. When he finally did fall asleep, it didn’t last long – that same little someone was also up at 3 AM, 4 AM, 5 AM and 7 AM – at that point, I finally brought him to bed with me. I figured if he wasn’t going to let me sleep, it didn’t really matter.

My husband asked me if I was going to work and I laughed. As I rubbed my tired eyes, I looked at him silently questioning whether or not he was serious.

  1. I completely understand that feeling and yes i have many experiences like this. i am a mother of two rambunctious boys and i swear even when they are not sick the house is covered in toys and clothes because no matter how much i put them away its a game to see how fast they can scatter them all over the house again. but when they are sick it is so much worse because i just get so worn out that if thats what makes them happy and gives me a chance to sit down without them screaming and me rocking them to keep them calm then i am all for it.

  2. I’m a SAHM so I don’t have to take a sick day. When the kids are sick, my husband can usually tell because dinners not ready when he gets home and yeah, scattered toys are probably around! An exhausted wife and fussy kids are always a sure sign too. 🙂

  3. I’m usually home all day with the kids anyway, but when we’re sick my hubby will more than likely find us on the couch watching a movie, the sink full of dishes and the dinner not started.
